Members of the public are invited to visit Sedgwick through participation in our programs. Read below to learn about some of our offerings. Programs registration is announced in our newsletter and on our events page.
Lectures
Come join us in the Tipton meeting house surrounded by the scenery of our beautiful Reserve for public lectures. Sedgwick Reserve hosts hundreds of world-class researchers annually who come to Sedgwick Reserve to study the pressing environmental issues. Throughout the year, researchers give public talks to share some of this exciting work. Lectures are offered primarily during the warmer months of the year (June-September).
Hikes
Sedgwick Reserve holds public hike days on second Saturdays October-May (except November). Come visit one of the crown jewels of the University of California Natural Reserve System, normally closed to the public. These are docent-led, interpretive hikes and while you will get some miles under your feet, they move at a naturalists’ pace. You will learn about flora, fauna, geology, history, and more as you immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of this beautiful landscape.
Our experienced docent guides lead multiple levels of hikes to accommodate a diversity of abilities from easy (less than 2 miles and 250 feet elevation change) to strenuous (4+ miles and 500+ feet elevation change). Interested in bringing kids? Ask us about family hikes!
Annual Barn Dance
Don your best western wear, kick up your heels, and join us for our annual barn dance at Sedgwick Reserve. This festive event includes food, drinks, and square dancing at the historic barn. It’s always a hoot!
Nature-Connection Programs
Throughout the year, Sedgwick Reserve holds programs focused on helping connect you with the natural world. Full moon hikes, introduction to birding, and small-group nature walks are examples of possible programs. Have an idea for a program offering?
